Playing down the slope in the first-half Argaum started brightly and concerted pressure near the DHSOB line resulted in a try for Tommy Cooper with a typically powerful burst for the line. DHSOB responded to this by scoring two tries from good handling moves to leave the half-time score 10-5 to the visitors. The second half was a stop-start affair as treatment was required to several players. Argaum, playing in unfamiliar YMCA kit due to a jersey colour clash, dominated the scrummage and also secured good lineout ball through Chris Curnow. Neither side could get a grip on the game however until some good driving and support play from Argaum saw Phil Morgan burst through to score near the posts, Steve Tomlinson added the conversion to put the home side up 12-10. The lead was shortlived as once again the visitors responded quickly with a penalty and another try (converted) driven from the base of a ruck. Trailing by two scores now the Chiefs had to throw caution to the wind and started running the ball from deep. Captain Andy Critchley, already suffering the effects of flu, took a knock in one such move and was replaced by Kevin Quigley, who with his first touch of the game beat off three challengers to score in the corner. The score came to late for Argaum and there was little time left for any further scoring.(RB)
