Topsham, who are highly tipped to win the Devon Two league started strongly with two tries in the first 15 minutes. Topsham using their pace on the wing to great effect were 14 – 0 up and looking good. Argaum to their credit dug deep and using their advantage in the pack managed to turn a Topsham scum and pulled a try back just before half time. After the restart Argaum had Topsham on the back foot for most of the second half and they produced some bone rattling tackles.
Another try soon followed from Fijian Royal Marine Omar Ranumatica, which was converted by fellow Fijian Bill Morcia. However some poor discipline from Argaum produced 2 penalties which were converted and Argaum Flanker Emosi Ranatawke was sent to the sin bin for going off his feet at the ruck. However with the score now at 20-14 to Topsham, Argaum were gaining momentum, and with more bone crunching tackles from the Argaum forwards Topsham spent most of the 2nd half in their own 22.
Argaum were dominating the scrum and turned over several Topsham put-in’s. However in the last 2 minutes of the game a breakaway try from the Topsham full back made the score 27-14 to the home side. And so ended a hard, tough start to the first game of the season for Argaum, who look they will be a strong force in Devon two this year.
