Bickleigh Down was bathed in glorious sunshine as the inaugural Plymouth Argaum Tag Rugby Festival took place. Ten teams from 7 local schools (Bickleigh Down, Boringdon, Langley, Lipson, Southway, St Peters and Tamerton Vale) took part in the competition which was divided into 2 groups followed by a series of play-offs to decide winners and runners-up.

No team went home empty handed but it was Langley Lions who received the Overall Winners Trophy from Plymouth Albion's Samoan star Alfie Tooala after they defeated Tamerton Vale 8 tries to 7 in a thrilling final.

Plymouth Argaum, who run their own junior rugby section, received backing for the event from Active Sports Devon in an attempt to establish links between the club and local schools.

"For our first attempt at this sort of event, the day could hardly have gone better really. We've had a lot of positive feedback from teachers and players and we will definitely make this an annual event, we're already looking to expand the competition next season. Junior rugby in the city is really taking off at the moment with Old Techs, Stonehouse and ourselves joining the more established junior set-ups at Devonport Services and Plymstock. It's up to the clubs now to build on the interest with these kind of events and provide children with the opportunity to play competitive sport on a regular basis. We would particularly like to thank Active Sports Devon, Sports South Hams and the Plymouth Rugby Combination for providing us with the help and support to enable us to put on an event such as this."
