Tigers Under 14s eased through in to the Devon Cup First Round after an emphatic win over Withycombe at a sweltering Bickleigh Down this morning. This was a Preliminary Round encounter and the first time these two clubs have met at junior level. It must also be the first time that a drinks break was required in each half at Bickleigh Down in October as the mini-heatwave continued.

Like Argaum, Withycombe Under 14s are a fairly new side having only been formed last season, and both sides struggled to maintain control in a scrappy first five minutes. However once Argaum were able to get their strike runners on the ball at pace they made tremendous headway running in the first of four 1st half tries, one of which was converted.

Argaum continued where they left off after the interval with 3 more tries, before the East Devon visitors applied a tremendous amount of pressure on the Tiger's line. The home side's defence was determined and in the final play of the game another breakaway try wrapped things up for Argaum, capping a superb all-round team performance for which coach Mark Albiston was rightly proud. Argaum now play Ivybridge at home in the 1st Round Proper - date to be confirmed. Credit must also go to Withycombe for their spirited display and their supporters who made the long trip in good numbers, The two sides meet again in a friendly in a couple of weeks time.

Final Score : Plymouth Argaum Tigers 44 Withycombe 0
