The Colts produced their best performance of the season against Liskeard at Bickleigh down yesterday and were close to gaining their first victory. The collaboration between Argaum and Saltash has proved more than worthwhile and the hard work put in during combined training sessions is starting to bear fruit.

This was a match played in persistent driving rain resulting in numerous handling errors from both sides, however there was plenty of enterprise and skill on display and certainly no lack of physical effort. After a scrappy first quarter it was the visitors who got on the score sheet with a well-worked try which went unconverted. The hosts defended heriocally at times up the slope to prevent any further score and at half time, with elements in their favour, would have fancied their chances of overcoming the defecit.

It was Liskeard though who struck first with a try near the posts but which again went unconverted. This galvanised the Argaum/Saltash team who started playing with playing with more intelligence, kicking for field position and making good ground with their ball carriers. One or two opportunities were spurned but eventually good offloading through the forwards resultied in a drive towards the line for Ryan Power to cross the whitewash. A good conversion was made from wide out by Matt Frost and the home side were only 3 points adrift. Neither side could gain control of the rest of the match which produced end-to-end action but it was Liskeard who held on for a narrow victory. This was a good all-round team effort from the Argaum and Saltash boys and it is hoped that they take this into next week's game at home to Tavistock.
