In the first game of the season Argaum were rewarded for their liveliness and combined efforts in the loose with a narrow victory over their opponents by two tries to a try.

The civilians opened against the wind and for several minutes were one man short. Metters early attempt at dropping a goal deserved a better fate, and despite the scrum advantage enjoyed by the sailors, keen tackling kept both lines intact until after the interval.

Argaum's account was opened when Baker forced his way over from five yards, his kick failing. Devonshire levelled matters within five minutes, however, Pritchard going over in the corner after a neat round of passing. ten minutes from time Metters sent Barron through for the winning try.
