In heavy playing conditions the home side got off to a good start with a Phil Morgan try which was converted by Darren Wills. After conceding a couple of penalties to the visitors Paul Collins touched down when Argaum's scummage drove over the Buckfastleigh line. In an end-to-end match the Ramblers proceeded to run in 3 tries before half time (2 converted) so that despite further touchdowns by Phil Morgan and Simon Lemon the Chiefs found themselves trailing 25-22 at the interval.
The second half saw Argaum exert a lot more control on the game and tries from Nigel Pinder and Phil Hall put them in the driving seat. However injuries started to disrupt both sides and neither side were able to add to their tally in a scrappy final quarter. Talking of scrappy, in the closing stages captain Andy Critchley failed to heed his own pre-match advice on discipline and (unluckily) got sin-binned for retaliation after taking on the opposition prop! Cold showers were the order of the day after the match as the Honorary Boiler Monitor forgot his duties (where were you Toby?). Overall the Chiefs will be pleased to get the two points but know they will have to up the performance for the forthcoming league games.(RB)
