The Argaum seniors met on Friday afternoon at the clubhouse for a few “warm ups” before departing for Bristol. Once the team eventually arrived after needing to stop for several “comfort and refreshment” breaks across most of Devon and Somerset the lads dressed up as English Knights to celebrate St George’s day and moved towards downtown Bristol to sample the local culture and taken on board some much needed fluids.
Plymouth Argaum are today proud to announce that the club has received a grant of £8500 from the Big Lottery Fund . The funding is to support renewal and upgrading of the club facilities, focussing in particular on the trackway leading up to the pitches and pitchside lighting. Work will be undertaken to tidy up the area next to the pitchside equipment enclosure and provide a lean-to for supporters to have shelter in inclement weather. Rewiring of the lighting and powering up of the enclosure will enable pitch-side refreshments to be served. The work will not only be of benefit to the rugby club but to all other users of the facilities such as dog agility, football and horse-riding. The enhanced facilities will enable more community events to be held and also allow Argaum to host training sessions for DIstrict Representative squads. The grant was obtained for the club by Jason Chinn who is also acting as Project Manager for the work undertaken. Further details will be released in the press shortly and progress of the work shown on this site.
You may be aware that three Plymouth Argaum players will shortly be off to Afghanistan. They are 1st XV Skipper Josh Theophanides, Jamie White and Johnathon Taaffe, 3 of the Royal Marines who have done so much to turn around the club's fortunes this season. There will be a Farewell Get Together up at the club this coming Saturday starting at 5pm (England v Wales match screened in the clubhouse).
I'm sure you would join me in thanking all 3 players for their effort this season and wish them a safe journey.
Please note that there is no senior match on Saturday (why not come up and support the colts against Devonport services at 2:30) but there is a vets game on Sunday against DHSOB , please let Symo know of your availability.
