Argaum Colts have had a succesful couple of seasons but with the majority of players moving up to the seniors this year and a small number of Under 16s coming through, we have not yet been in position to field a full team this season. Our neighbours from across the Tamar, Saltash RFC, have also suffered similar problems, therefore the two clubs have decided to pool resources and play as a combined team. This does present a number of difficulties in terms of positions and training, but so far they have played 3 matches against Liskeard, Plymstock and Falmouth and although yet to win have given a decent account of themselves. More importantly it has enabled players to continue playing rugby and prevented two sides from folding. A number of clubs seem to be struggling with this particular age-group and sadly Totnes have already withdrawn their Colts side this season. It is hoped that with the interest generated from the World Cup and further recruitment that both sides will be nearer to full-strength by the second half of the season, until then the respective coaches and players appear to be keen for the collaboration to continue. Saltash had a similar arrangement with Liskeard last season but it is thought that this may be unique for two teams from different counties to have done so. Argaum have previously joined forces with Stonehouse to enter an Under 10 festival as 'The Tiger Sharks' and such imagination in the interest of the wider game should be applauded. Both teams train on Wednesday evenings and play on Saturday afternoons.   

Plymouth Argaum begin senior pre-season training on Tuesday 5th July (7pm) with renewed optimism ahead of their 125th Anniversary season. Club restructuring has seen a new Senior Rugby Committee formed under the Chairmanship of Gary Michael, whilst there is new coaching team led by Dave Sansom, who takes over from Argaum stalwart Howell Phillips. Paying tribute to Phillips, Michael said "We would publicly like to thank Howell for his magnificent work over the last few seasons who, along with Team Manager Dave Fuge, have developed the senior set-up enormously. Howell has made a magnificent contribution to Argaum over the years as both a player and a coach and we hope that he will continue to be involved with the club." Senior Training will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and there is a belief that with a large number of colts stepping up there will be good competition for places in the two senior teams that Argaum will be operating.

The proposed new club structure and rules changes were overwhelmingly passed at last night's Club AGM. The restructure involves a Main Club Governance Committee looking after the club's facilities with sub-committees for Senior, Junior and Cubs reporting to it. This should allow for committee meetings to be more focused and for matters to be dealt with efficiently. The Club Rule Changes were passed with some minor ammendments. Steve Barnes (President), Chris Sillitoe (Chairman), Mark Handley (Vice Chairman), Ann Sillitoe (Hon Sec) and Neil Bond (Hon Treasurer) were voted back into their posts whilst Mark Gibbings was voted in as the new Club Captain. After the AGM, the first meeting of the Senior Committee took place in order to form a Senior Committee, details of those posts will be published shortly.

The fixtures for the 2011-12 season are just out and Plymouth Argaum will start their league campaign with a trip to newcomers Exeter University on September 17th. There is a 3 week interval before they host Ilfracombe and a further fornight before visiting cross-city rivals Old Techs. The leaue programme finishes with Argaum hosting the University on 14th April. As it will be a 9 team league there will a couple of spare weeks for each team.
