Two of the strongest teams in the Plymouth Combination met a gruelling game at the Brickfields, and Argaum, with the heavier and more vigorous pack, ran out winners by two goals to one penalty goal. Yendell, Young, and Close stood out in the visitors' fast-moving back division, but they were foiled by keen marking and the adverse conditions. The civilians' tries —one in each half resulted from concerted dribbles. Blackburn and Douglas touched down, and the latter goaled both tries. Plymouth Argaum 23pts., 65 H.A.A. Regt. 5.

Play at Roborough was confined largely to the forwards. After holding Argaum to a 6-5 lead and dominating the line-outs and tight scrummages, the visitors lost Williams and with him much of their fire. Timoney. Dobell. Gibbs, Major, Dunne, and Whiting touched down for the home team and the lastnamed added a penalty. A conversion was made by Sugden. Excell scored for the Regiment and May converted.

Although the match at Dartmouth was closely contested open play was restricted by the monotonous touch finding of the home team, several of whom lacked experience. With the slope in their favour the Plymouth club attacked fiercely. Major's attempt to drop a goal fell just short, and a good follow up by Gourlay and Griffins saw the last named cross over. Magill adding the extras. In the loose the Dartmouth for- wards were well led, but their quick heeling from the tight went unrewarded.

Two well-matched packs monopolised most of a rather scrappy game at Cross. Argaum, hard hit by injuries, managed to win by two tries to nil, but failed to exploit to the full their " outside " supremacy. Scrum-half Daly crossed from the blind side of a scrummage during the first half, and Douglas followed up a diagonal kick to add a second try. Baker led the winners' pack well, and Palmer was cool at full-back. Horsham distinguished himself In the home eight.

Roborough. Plymouth Argaum won their Boxing Day game against O.P.M.s by a solitary try to nil. Play was hard and robust, but movement generally lacked polish. W. Hitchins heeling well, the virile home forwards controlled the first half, and ten minutes from the interval Douglas, at stand-off. received and crossed over after a 30- yard run. In mid-field the visitors' backs looked dangerous, with Beamish prominent at centre, but their attacks petered out against an alert defence. Argaum came near to increasing their lead when Douglas went just wide with a drop kick. Ball and Mutton, the respective full-backs, were in excellent form, and Blackburn stood out in the winners' pack.
