In this article we look back at the origins of the Annual Match v OPMs and the close relationship between the two clubs. In the early part of the century Argaum were used to travelling on Boxing Day including visits to the likes of Exeter Reserves and Teignmouth. However, our story takes us back over 85 years to the season 1926-27, when seven Argaum players left the club to form the new OPMs side including one George Wakeham, later to become President of both Plymouth Albion and Devon RFU.

Pete Duff's Testimonial Match

Plymouth Argaum entertain OPM's on Boxing Day in the annual meeting between the two clubs.

This year, the fixture coincides with Argaum Stalwart, Pete Duff's testimonial game. After playing local Rugby for 23 years, all of them for Argaum, Pete(54) has decided to hang-up his boots and at the request of his long-suffering wife Bev, get an operation ton straighten his infamously crooked nose.

Pete was brought to Argaum by a work colleague, Paddy Gillespie during the 81/82 season and initially started as a Hooker, before switching to number nine, alledgely for an easier time. Over the years, Pete has fulfilled various roles for the club, including becoming Club Captain.

I'm sure that everyone would agree that Plymouth Argaum is as much Pete Duff as Pete Duff is Plymouth Argaum. Argaum look forward to seeing him continue his support for the club. He has firmly been cemented in it's history.

Argaum are hoping to welcome plenty of old faces back to Bickliegh Down, as well as a sprinkling of new talent for an occasion richly deserved.

The bar will be open to host a good, old-fashioned Argaum knees-up, so it would be great to see everyone there.

Kick-off is at 12 o'clock, meet in the clubhouse at 11am.

Playing down the slope first half the tigers started well but soon let their organisation and discipline slip, and for a good 20 minutes things were looking pretty ragged.

Roborough. Plymouth Argaum won their Boxing Day game against O.P.M.s by a solitary try to nil. Play was hard and robust, but movement generally lacked polish. W. Hitchins heeling well, the virile home forwards controlled the first half, and ten minutes from the interval Douglas, at stand-off. received and crossed over after a 30- yard run. In mid-field the visitors' backs looked dangerous, with Beamish prominent at centre, but their attacks petered out against an alert defence. Argaum came near to increasing their lead when Douglas went just wide with a drop kick. Ball and Mutton, the respective full-backs, were in excellent form, and Blackburn stood out in the winners' pack.
