Old Techs Match Report

TRIBUTE DEVON TWO Plymouth Argaum...0 Old Techs...42

ARGAUM suffered a heavy defeat for the second week running.

They found themselves behind from a Ryan Tunnicliffe penalty.

Centre Phillip Ingleson went over for the Old Boys who piled on the points in the first quarter.

Number eight Sean Bedford-Smith claimed a try before second row Dan Shepherd grounded from a catch and drive.

Ingleson dotted down his second and second row Nick Dorian was rewarded for his display with Tech's last try of the half.

The Old Boys dominated the line-outs and used the catch and drive well to keep their backs supplied.

The Chiefs defended well after the break and contained Techs to a solitary try through flanker Neil Williams, crowning a good performance.

THE Chiefs' lack of front row was bettered by the experienced pack of the Old Technicians at Roborough.

ARGAUM chose to make their league fixture a double-header and put the additional Lockie Cup fixture into their match with Old Technicians.

Old Technicians hardly deserved to lose a robust game by three tries to pil, for their attack was frequently the more constructive. With Smithfield, their elusive scrum-half, as the pivot, they had Argaum worried in the early stages, but lacked stamina. Handling was poor because of the high wind, and after the home backs had missed several chances, the forwards took control. P. Wood made the only score of the first half, and further tries were added by J. Burns and R. Heeley.

At Roborough, Argaum's second string registered a comfortable win by a goal and five tries to nil. The visitors defence impressed in the first half, and only two tries were conceded, Wright and Heeley scoring.

After the interval Old Techs lost most of the set scrums and apart from spasmodic raids in which Stitson figured, Argaum's backs had much their own way. Tries were scored by Whiting (2), Hayter and Robertson and Bennett goal points to one.

Argaum's second string took their chances to win a hard-fought game in Central Park by two tries to a penalty goal. After a pointless first half, Elford dived over for their opening try, following a forward attack. Perry's penalty goal brought the score level, before Chapman's alertness in following up produced the deciding unconverted try.
